In
August, 2003 we lost the last of our Four Bad
Cats. It was difficult
to think about a new family, but when you consider how many kitties
need homes, we knew we had to adopt as soon as possible. (If you
want to get an idea of how many animals -- cats, dogs, and other
domesticated animals -- are waiting for homes, take a look through PetFinder.)
We
contacted a local animal rescue group and told them we were looking
for two adult kitties who could get along with each other -- and of
course who liked being mushed and gushed :-). They told us about two
brothers who were just over a year old -- the boys were hard to
place because they wanted to keep them together. We looked at their
pictures on PetFinder, and they were so handsome that we arranged a
meeting. The boys decided they liked us, so we adopted them. They
settled in pretty quickly, sleeping with us on their first night at
home.
All
of us were getting used to each other, and then a few
days later we got a call from the rescue group: the boys had a
sister (they hadn't told us before), and she was very depressed because she'd been left alone.
They asked us if we'd foster the sister for a while, and of course
we agreed. The minute she entered the house and saw her brothers
she ran over to them and began to wash them. Yes, you guessed it,
she's a permanent part of our family. Sort of a "buy two, get
one free" deal! Let us introduce you to our furbies:
Our
newest family member is Spunky, who came to us in mid-November as a
tiny grey-and-white kitty crying outside our door. We took him in
... and then discovered he had a brother (or maybe a sister -- we're
not sure). Luckily one of our neighbours took him (her?) in, but we
decided to keep Spunky. We're back to four cats again, and couldn't
be happier. More on the Spunkster (Spunky + monster) soon!
