I am sitting back enjoying an English Breakfast
tea from my favorite cup and saucer after cleaning up from a warm and joy filled Yule/Winter
Solstice.
For our Yule celebration we had a small group of our closest friends
over to join us in an indoors winter picnic filled with finger
sandwiches, baked goods (all made with love by yours truly),
sweets, and of course tea, tea, and more spiced tea!
We lit a candle to symbolize the coming back of the sun,
put a checkered picnic blanket on the living room floor beside the Yule
tree, piped in some sounds of the season from the stereo and had a
feast of tea breads, tea sandwiches, spiced teas, not spiced
teas ... the list goes on and on...
It seems to me that tea is the muse of
life. It inspires times of reflection, it gives comfort in times of stress and sorrow, it helps
ignite the flames of imagination, and it tends to remind us of just how
good it is to be alive.
Our friends, who are new to the whole tea scene, commented on
how content they seem to be after having a cup of warm tea. They
began talking about all the good things that happened this year, and
even commented on how much they had grown from any of the unfortunate things that took
place.
Warm smiles were flowing
freely in our happy home, all because of the warmth and love that tea seems to inspire in people. They
stayed all night -- which was a great opportunity to try out different
types of teas -- and celebrated the coming of the sun the next
morning, feeling its warmth in their hearts.
As the flame of our candle began to die out, I said aloud a
little blessing: "This warmth the sun has bestowed upon our hearts will
be forever kindled whenever we have a cup of tea, for it will remind
us of this day and how grateful we are to be alive."
Our friends left feeling refreshed
and ready for the new year.
Signing off from a lovely Toronto winter's eve ...
